You have probably seen those tins of herbal salve at the Farmer’s Market, a Craft Fair, or even in my shop… but weren’t really sure what it is or what it is even for.
Today I am going to show you all the benefits to using one of our herbal salves. I am committed to creating the best natural products that are healing without any toxic junk. These salves can replace many of the less healthy options we commonly use.
So what is a salve?
Basically, a salve is simply an ointment used for healing or protection of the skin. I create my salves with a basic combination of an oil or oils and beeswax. Depending on the type of salve, I also add various herbs and essential oils. I have chosen each ingredient carefully for its healing properties. I carry a total of six different salves in my shop; Gardener’s Hand Salve, Adventurer’s Healing Salve, Explorer’s Muscle Salve, Sweet Dreams Salve, Breath Easy Cough & Cold Salve, and Soothing Baby Salve.
Gardener’s Hand Salve
This is an amazing all purpose salve! I first created this salve when we were farming and spending a lot of time working in the dirt. This often led to dry, chapped hands and Gardener’s Hand Salve was the answer! This salve contains the skin healing properties of Calendula, Comfrey, and Plantain as well as a touch of Lavender and Tea Tree essential oils.

So, What Makes Simple Gifts Farmhouse Herbal Salves Different?
Number one is the ingredients.
I am committed to choosing high quality ingredients that provide health to your skin. Each ingredient is researched for the benefits it will provide. I use a base of simple, all natural ingredients in every salve I create. The base contains:
- Organic olive and/or coconut oil
- Natural beeswax
- Non-GMO Vitamin E Oil
That’s it!
Then infused or added, depending on the salve are a variety organic herbs and essential oils.
Secondly, is the procces.
All of my salves are made with slow, cool infused oils to extract maximum benefits from each herb. The herbs stay in the oil for at least 4-6 weeks before being strained and turned into salve. Most of my salves also contain a few carefully selected essential oils to bring added benefit to the healing properties.
And, Last(but not Least), Is The Result
The finished product is a smooth, easy to use salve that not only nourishes and heals your skin but is also a delight to the senses!

I make my own salves too, It’s one of my favorite things to do. I usually make a big batch and then freeze it and take it out as I need it. Salves work so beautifully and are a forgotten healing modality that NEEDS to make a comeback, I’m so glad to see you are working to bring them back! I’d like to figure out how to make a salve or a cream with probiotics someday! If you beat me to it let me know!
Celeste says
Yes, the process is so rewarding! I never thought of freezing mine, but I have had no trouble with them going bad before using them up!
April Kitchens says
Salve is great for skin protection and healing. I use salve on scratches that my daughter may get, or just to moisturize my hands. I used a salve when she was in cloth diapers as well.

I think I definitely need to get some of these for my husband to try. He was in a motorcycle accident about a year and a half ago and even though he’s fully healed, he is still recovering and has aches and pains. It sounds as if some of these could help him. It’s been difficult for us to find solutions for him, thus far.
Celeste says
Yes, they may be helpful for him! I hope you find solutions!
