These easy Calendula lotion bars are simple and nourishing for your skin. I love to keep these around the house for my hands whenever they get dry or rough from hard work around the home or in the garden. They are made with minimal and natural ingredients and make a great alternative to store bought lotion that is full of toxic ingredients.
The warmth of your skin as you rub the lotion bar in will gently melt the oils and allow them to soak in deeply.
I love to infuse my oil with herbs and botanicals for the extra healing benefit, however you can also leave them out to make the proccess even quicker and easier.
Some Benefits of Calendula
In these lotion bars I chose to use Calendula flowers that I dried from last summer’s garden. There are several benefits of Calendula for your skin, including:
- Help heal wounds
- Hydrate dry skin
- Fight skin infection
- Prevent acne
What You Need
4 oz. Calendula infused olive oil
4 oz. Beeswax
2 oz. Shea butter
2 oz. Mango or cocoa butter
10- 20 drops essential oil(optional)
To Make
Step 1
Harvest Calendula flowers and lay on racks to dry completely. I often use my food dehydrator on very low. Alternativly you can purchase already dried Calendula from Mountain Rose Herbs.
Step 2
Fill a small jar with dried Calendula. Add organic olive oil to cover flowers and close with a lid. Allow to sit for about 4 weeks.
Step 3
Using a mesh strainer or cheescloth strain oil off of flowers being sure to squeeze out as much as you can. I often end up using my hands to get out the last drops. This is messy but great for my skin!
Step 4
Using a kitchen scale weigh out out all your ingredients into a glass measuring cup. Save any leftover Calendula oil for something else.
Step 5
Place measuring cup in a pot of water and heat slowly on the stove to melt all oils together. Remove from heat once melted.
Step 6
Now is the time to add essential oils if you are using them.
Step 7
Now pour your melted mixture carefully into molds. I like to use some cute soap molds I have. I have also found silicone muffin liners to work very well! Use whatever you have on hand.
Step 8
Allow bars to cool and harden overnight. Then carefully remove them from the molds. Store them in a all together in a jar or individually in small tins. To use simply rub them into your skin.
