We had a great weekend in Montana with my whole family exploring the area where I spent my childhood. I have many fond memories of playing in this barn with my sister and our first ponies.

We also got the full tour of the house from the current owner. It was originally an old farmhouse that my dad completely remodeled.

In the back is the original cabin that we used as a playhouse.

I don't think I'll ever get tired of beautiful days at the lake.

I love the beauty and rhythm of every season, and right now I am soaking up relaxed summer days. Mornings working in the garden, preserving the harvest, and reading with the children- then often lazy afternoons at the lake.

It was a cherry jam kind of day...
Yesterday we went to the u-pick orchard and picked cherries! Today we turned them into jam! This is actually the first time I have made cherry jam, usually I dry, freeze and can cherries. But I thought it would be fun to try something new. I'm so thankful for my sweet little helper, too!

When it's so hot outside and I don't know what to make for lunch, I search the fridge and pantry and we have a snack lunch.

Our summer morning routine still involves reading

Our summer morning routine still involves reading aloud, singing, poetry, and a few other things. We love and need our summer break, but I have also found that we need to keep a bit of structure and routine. Here is what we are doing over the summer:

We always start our morning time with a hymn. During the school year we follow the @amblesideonline hymn rotation. For the summer I asked the kids to each pick a more modern hymn/worship song. For June my oldest chose Is He Worthy by @andrewpetersonmusic

For poetry we are reading the lovely Gladiola Garden which was recommended by @heritagemomblog

We are also doing a read aloud (of course!) For that I chose Just David. I have seen it recommend many places and it is just lovely. I picked a copy at a thrift store awhile ago and have been saving it for just the right time. The kids are lovely it so much that we are nearly finished already and need to pick a new one for the rest of summer. I am considering The Year if Miss Agnes. Has anyone read it? Is it good?

We are also doing an artist study on Henry Ossawa Tanner which I got from @ahumbleplace

Also not pictured is nature study. We are slowly going through @johnmuirlaws Nature Connection

There really isn't any grand plan in what I have chosen, just a collection of lovely things that are enriching our days.
