Little Luxuries: DIY Sugar and Salt Scrubs

sugar and salt scrubs

Sometimes while living this life as a farmer’s wife it can be easy forget to make time for little luxuries. Money can get tight so we don’t buy any extras. Or we can get so busy that it seems that there is no time to spare.

But it is so important to make time in the midst of all the chaos to take care of yourself. And I have discovered that it really doesn’t take much time or money at all! This is a very simple project that anyone can do. Whether you are a busy mom of little ones, have a stressful job, or work on the land this quick and easy project will both give you a creative outlet and a chance to pamper yourself or a friend.

I have enjoyed making these sugar and sea salt scrubs so much that I have created a small business selling them at Farmers Market and on our website. They really are wonderful on dry feet, hands, knees, elbows or anywhere else. I use them in the shower on any rough spots from working in the garden.  Even my farmer husband likes using these! They also make great gifts that are quick to make and can be customized with whatever scent you like!

So now I am going to share my quick and easy recipes with you. Enjoy!

Sugar Scrub

3/4 cup organic cane sugar

1/4 cup coarse turbinado sugar*

1/3 cup sweet almond oil or other light oil

20-30 drops essential oil (I like blending vanilla and lime)

*for a softer scrub use all cane sugar

Sea Salt Scrub

3/4 cup sea salt

1/4 cup himalayan pink salt

1/3 cup olive oil

20- 30 drops essential oil (I have been using lavender and grapefruit)

For both recipes simply mix all ingredients together and store in a lidded container. I like to put mine in small cute canning jars.

These recipes can easily be doubled or more for making large batches for gift giving!

Just a couple of cautions now. If using in the shower be careful because they can make the floor slippery. Also the sea salt one will sting or burn any open cuts or scrapes.
